At Dormers Wells High School we have high expectations of every student and students are encouraged to have high expectations themselves. We seek to meet the needs and aspirations of all our young people.
However, we also identify a cohort of students who have the potential to achieve high grades across all subjects. We aim to ensure that these students receive a personalised programme which takes the form of ensuring they are stretched and challenged within lessons as well as providing an array of external opportunities in order to help them achieve their potential and increase aspiration.

Curriculum areas offer students opportunities to develop and enhance their subject knowledge through the provision of extracurricular opportunities. These range from creative writing and poetry workshops, to national mathematics competitions and STEM events.
Already at Key Stage 3, students start their journey into finding out about university through taking part in various trips and visits. Students can also start developing their debating skills through participation in the London Debate Challenge.

| Key stage 4 |
Curriculum areas offer students opportunities to hone in on key skills such as computer coding, public speaking, scientific workshops and mathematical challenges.
Key Stage 4 students continue their journey into discovering more about universities and their requirements. They participate in trips to Oxford and Cambridge as well as other Russell Group universities, these are organised through our established links with these universities.
Students also have the opportunity of applying to take part in The Scholars Programme run by The Brilliant Club in which PhD tutors deliver university-style tutorials over 6 weeks. Students can apply to study a Humanities or Stem strand. The programme is designed to emulate teaching and learning at a highly selective university. The workshops take place both in school and at universities.
Students are also invited and encouraged to participate in an after school debating programme which we is with Debate Mate. This is a 16 week programme of debating workshops which also includes local and national debating competitions.
Student can apply to participate in work experience opportunities which could enhance their university applications and help them better understand what career opportunities various study routes might offer.

| Key stage 5 |
In Key Stage 5, we promote attendance at master classes run by universities and summer schools at universities both locally and nationally.
Whilst potential Oxbridge applicants are put on specific support programmes, we also guide and encourage student participation in support programmes such as TeachFirst, and the SMF as well as those run by universities themselves such as STEM Potential at Imperial College London, K+ at Kings College, Reading Scholars and UniLink at UCL. We have high numbers of students to achieve places on these programmes every year. Students get one to one support on their UCAS applications
In addition students are helped to gain work experience placements in a range of work places from top research hospitals to international banks.
High Achieving students are also offered the opportunity to complete the Extended Project Qualification which allows students to pursue their intellectual passions in depth and develop a wide range of intellectual skills.
High Achieving Students receive regular emails and updates ensuring they are fully aware of all the upcoming opportunities available to them and which will help them excel in their university applications.
